In the last two messages in this series, we looked at our new purpose from God, as the new people of God. Again, in light of who we are here, we looked at why we are here, and, now, we move on to look at where we are here, in God’s marvelous light. We look at how we belong in God’s marvelous light, and then where we belong in God’s marvelous light for our inheritance from Him, our imitation of Him, and our influence for Him.

Today we move on to see that, as a new people of God, we have a new purpose from God. In light of who we are here, we are looking at why we are here. And the answer to that comes down to this: to proclaim the excellencies of God. The points to ponder are: (1) To proclaim is not to preach. (2) The excellencies of God are not just about how generally good God is. (3) Proclaiming the excellencies of God is to be our mission on purpose.
I take you to 1 Peter 2:9 to show you some specific truth I believe we need to be reformed and revived by - specific truths that counter three specific crises I see in the churches of America today: a crisis of personality, a crisis of purpose, and a crisis of place. These specific truths regard who we are, why we are here, and where we belong, in that we are a new people of God, with a new purpose from God, in a new place with God. In looking closely at these truths, today’s message is the first of three from 1 Peter 2:9, leading us to see that we need to orient ourselves to who God says we are, consciously modelling our thoughts, feelings, and actions accordingly.

But you are a chosen race, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
