I knew I was. They made sure of it - no airs - just authentic welcomes and worship. My hand was shaken, and my heart was stirred. I drove by the church building when I was on my way to buy tires from a man living in a neighborhood nearby. I was impressed with the building and grounds, as well as the general area, and decided to visit them the next Sunday, being in town for the weekend. (I have to be honest - the thought went through my mind, I wonder if they are as nice as their building.) I was not disappointed. Honestly, I’ve been disappointed a number of times, so, I tend to go into a visit with some guard up. I was soon glad to see, though, that my brothers and sisters of Bethel Baptist were gathered to worship our Lord in song and in His Word. The praise was sincere and joyful. The congregation joyfully joined in with the talented musicians and singers under the leadership of the humble, yet, capable worship leader. I very naturally engaged in their exaltation of and exultation in our Lord Jesus. The preaching was straight-forward and faithful. As Pastor Bob Thompson stepped up to deliver the message, I was able to settle into his solid exposition of Jeremiah 1:1-10. He started on point and stayed on point, leaving no one in doubt as to what they were to take to heart and take away from the Word: laying down all excuses and trusting God to equip for how He calls. As he closed, he gave anyone not knowing the Lord ample opportunity to come to know Him. If you are looking for a church to visit in the OKC/Yukon area, you won’t go wrong going to Bethel Baptist Church. In facing today’s surge of counterfeit Christianity, I am glad to know of and let you know of a place where the Spirit of the Lord truly is - not in the church building and grounds, but in the church that meets there.
