Foregoing a lengthy introduction to them, I take for granted that most people are at least somewhat familiar with the congresswomen of “the squad” by now (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan), and I say some things in this article about what they believe as opposed to who they are. The things stated here should be taken for granted by all people in common sense. Unfortunately, though, enough people are ideologically aligned with “the squad” that these things need to be stated openly, clearly and forcefully by as many rational people as possible. The congresswomen that make up “the squad” want us all to know that they are women of color. They have drawn the nation’s attention to their gender and skin color more than once. And they believe that they face opposition and must have special consideration just for the fact that they are women of color. Let’s nail this down as exactly what it is. They refuse to accept the idea that their policies are being rejected as foolish and dangerous. To the contrary, they insist that their policies are being rejected because they are women of color and, therefore, should be accepted because they are women of color. According to them, because they think with feminine brains, speak with feminine voices, and are wrapped in brown skin, we must end all opposition to and fully embrace their ideologies, regardless of the consequences.
The hypocrisy reeks. Many years ago, this nation rightly rejected the notion that certain members of this society should be heard and followed merely for being a certain color and gender—for being white men. Those men were righteously fought and defeated. Outrage would be expected and right if a group of men now stood up and told the nation, “Listen to us and follow us. We are white men.” Yet, now, these four women stand and tell the nation, “Listen to us, follow us, and watch how you talk to us. We are women of color.” This is simply sexism and racism in reverse. The color of skin covering your body should have no bearing on the expected or actual treatment of your person, whether well or ill. And while I embrace and insist on the honoring of women by true gentlemen, men and other women should not mindlessly acquiesce to everything that women espouse, whether for shaping a home or an entire society. The problem with “the squad” is their ideologies, not their identities. Regarding whether their public policies are legitimate and beneficial, their genders and ethnicities do not matter. Regardless of being women of color, their policies are, in fact, demonstrably foolish and dangerous. Therefore, if they turned 180 degrees on their policies, they would be welcomed by their conservative opponents, including President Trump, with open arms. True racists and misogynists do not care what their policies are. Such wicked people just want them to disappear. In stark contrast, we want them to change and join us. Speaking of Christians, we want them to repent in turning to the Lord Jesus, trust Him in saving faith, and join our ranks as those advancing His righteous will in this nation and around the world. We are millions strong, men and women from all races and walks of life, and we would gladly embrace and encourage them as sisters in Christ. Now, this is not to say that benefits to men and women of different races should not be taken into consideration in the formation and application of public policy. For example, public policy should have ingrained in it the critical value of fatherhood and do anything appropriate to incentivize rather than minimize it. Additionally, public policy should affirm the valuable role of women in society, giving equal importance to their investments and input as active participants in the civil and legal arenas, such as is not done in many other countries and was not done in Israel in Jesus’ day. Furthermore, our American ancestors were absolutely right to reject institutional, race-based slavery as a matter of public policy, and no policy should ever degrade the status and welfare of one race under another. As a last example, public policy can include how to aid advancements in dealing with unique challenges like prostate cancer, cervical cancer, and sickle-cell anemia. We must distinguish between two viewpoints. One viewpoint holds that passing an objective cost-benefit analysis gives merit to one’s ideas for public policy. The other viewpoint holds that one’s subjective identity, strong feelings and isolated experiences gives merit to one’s ideas for public policy, with no consideration of widespread cost and benefit beyond successfully pushing one’s ideology. The starkest example of the latter is the Green New Deal. By all objective analysis, the Deal is financially impossible, economically devastating, practically ludicrous and completely unnecessary. Yet, the women of “the squad” are on record as saying that it should be passed and fully implemented immediately, regardless of how much it will cost and how little it will benefit. No matter how wrong it looks, it’s the right thing to do. And now we know that the Green New Deal is really all about green paper, not a green planet, as one of Alexandrea Ocasio-Cortez’s staff members has testified that the Deal is about radically transforming our economy, not curbing climate change. And what do they fall back on when they are pressed with facts they cannot contend with? They are women of color. “The squad” is mired in and peddling identity politics, and identity politics is doing real damage to the Democratic party. While the intensity of the push is new, the initiative is not. This is what the Democrats have had coming for a long time. The Democratic party is now cannibalizing itself in its identity politics. The youngest, most vocal, most socialist, darkest colored women are demanding their platforms and power. They want the party for themselves as the purest fulfillment of identity politics. In fact, the only way for them to truly fulfill their ideological purpose is to nominate for President a young, transgender, “lesbian woman” of color, so that all special-class identities can be summed up in one figurehead leading their charge. And if they continue to push this charge, I hope and believe they will marginalize their party into oblivion. I don’t care what happens to the Democratic party. I care what happens to the people their policies will harm. Their policies are dangerous and would be destructive to this society, regardless of gender and color. The genders and colors of the ones espousing these policies matter no more than the type or color of a container from which one is pouring poison into a main water supply. Imagine someone feigning such ridiculous outrage over actions to stop her: “You don’t like my brown bottle!” The radical policies of the far left are poison to this society, but in order to shut down intellectual assessment and exposure of their policies, they raise a ridiculous cry of bigotry against their bottles. Rational people know that the problem is the poison, not the bottles.
