"POSITIVE, ENCOURAGING" & TROUBLING (A CONCERN WITH K-LOVE CHRISTIAN RADIO)

My truck was overdue for a set of shocks. So, I parked in the shade, turned on K-LOVE Radio, and rolled the window down. They were re-airing the K-LOVE Fan Awards. As I was shuffling around on the ground to start on the second shock, Brandon Heath came on with NHL player Mike Fisher (Nashville Predators), interviewing him regarding his nomination for the Sports Impact award as a Christian athlete. And there is my concern.

In the middle of last year, Mike’s wife, Carrie Underwood, went public with her support of gay “marriage”. (The articles are numerous, so, you can easily find them. Here is another blog post of mine dealing Carrie’s announcement, with a link to one online article in particular: NOT GOOD GIRL.) Carrie has left the impression that her husband agrees with her position, sharing that they attend a “gay-friendly” church, and Mike has not made any statements, which I can find, stating otherwise. So, to hear Mike being interviewed on K-LOVE Christian Radio, having been nominated for a Christian award, for his impact in the sports world as a Christian athlete (which I now know he won), was very troubling to me.

I contacted K-LOVE Radio, expressing my confusion and concern. Here is a copy of the email I sent to them:

Hi, guys.

I am a pastor in Oklahoma and have been listening to you for almost 20 years. I have always appreciated your Christ-centered programming, and I believe I should have contacted you much earlier than this to tell you that.

I contact you now somewhat confused and very concerned about something. I was listening today to your re-broadcast of the K-LOVE Fan Awards, when I heard Brandon Heath interviewing Mike Fisher, the husband of Carrie Underwood. I do not understand why Mike was given any kind of a platform on your program (or eligible for any nomination of any award) in light of his and Carrie's public support of gay "marriage", with them sharing publicly that their church is in fact "gay friendly", meaning that it supports the homosexual lifestyle as they do. (I was also disappointed with Brandon's warm camaraderie with Mike and Carrie being celebrated on your platform, considering his popularity and the message that sends to his fans.) I pray righteousness is not being compromised among you for the sake of being "positive and encouraging". Remember how God regards the noise of accolades in the void of sincere devotion visibly expressed in the life of open and genuine obedience: "Take away from Me the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. But let justice flow like water, and righteousness, like an unfailing stream." (Amos 5:23-24 HCSB)
