ON CARRIE UNDERWOOD'S SUPPORT OF GAY "MARRIAGE"The handsome suitor of P.C. popularity has come knocking on Carrie Underwood’s door, and she has answered, affectionately slipping her arm into his in announcing her support of gay “marriage” (see one article here: http://www.digitalspy.com/celebrity/news/a386797/carrie-underwood-reveals-support-for-gay-marriage.html). I am truly disappointed to see her fall into his seductive trap. Carrie, I wish I could say to you your own words:
Why, why you gotta be so blind? Won’t you open up your eyes? It’s just a matter of time 'til you find He’s no good, girl No good for you You better get to getting on your goodbye shoes and go, go, go... Better listen to me He’s low, low, low... (From “Good Girl”) However, I have to check myself and make sure I’m being fair to her. Perhaps she truly believes Jesus has taken the wheel and is steering her in that direction. Perhaps, as she attends her “gay-friendly” church, where, “It's not about setting rules, or [saying] ‘everyone has to be like me’,” she is sincerely convinced that Jesus has set the rule that everyone must grant equal value and privilege to homosexual behavior as a morally and legally legitimate lifestyle. Perhaps she holds the moral conviction that our society should stipulate the removal of any moral stipulations against homosexual behavior, and that this is a loving thing to do. Point being, perhaps she is not just wanting to be popular but morally right. I’m willing to grant her that, but that doesn’t change the fact that she is biblically wrong. In her statement to the press, Carrie gives away some assumptions that I want to address. Here are her words from the article linked above: "Our church is gay-friendly. Above all, God wanted us to love others. It's not about setting rules, or [saying] 'everyone has to be like me'. No. We're all different. That's what makes us special. We have to love each other and get on with each other. It's not up to me to judge anybody." Assumption #1: Supporting gay “marriage” makes one gay-friendly. At the core of this assumption is the idea that being friendly toward homosexual behavior is the only way to be friendly toward homosexual human beings. People that think like this take for granted and insist that we cannot separate attitude toward a practice from attitude toward a person—value of a person’s behavior from the value of a person’s being. This is just not true. I can be and am opposed to homosexual activity while being friendly to people who choose to identify themselves by that activity. Assumption #2: Supporting gay “marriage” is specifically part of how God wants us who are not homosexual to love and tolerate those who are. First of all, this assumption requires that God Himself is not only in favor of homosexual behavior, but also wants it morally and legally legitimized and institutionalized as an act of loving tolerance. They must take for granted that God is on their side and against ours. They deny us that right while taking it themselves. Now, I, in turn, am not going to deny them that right—if—they are willing to deal honestly with the question of who is actually right. And the burden of proof is on them, because of the straight-forward prohibitions against homosexuality in Scripture. And to presume upon the will of God without a word from God is a dangerous thing to do. Second of all, their demand for this expression of loving tolerance goes far beyond how they are treated as human beings. They want affirmation of their lifestyle legally and morally embedded in our society. They want far more than equal rights to privacy—they want what they see as equal rights to privileges for sexual attractions and choices…which are not beneficial for civilization or society in any way, as the core family is. Assumption #3: Supporting gay “marriage” is not about forcing anyone to conform to a lifestyle they don’t want to live, but only about affirming special differences. This is just flat naïve, because even now, without gay “marriage” being federally legal, there are efforts to outlaw rights of conscience for religious organizations, churches, and ministers who will not accept active homosexuals into their memberships or take part in their civil union/state-level “marriage” ceremonies. You can look up the legal cases for yourself. Homosexual activists have every intention of using the law as a bully club to beat us into submission. Federal law will just give them a bigger club. Carrie, you’re a sweet girl. I’ve always liked you. But this is not good, girl. If Jesus truly has His hands on your wheel—if He is truly the Savior of your soul and the Lord of your life, you will re-think this…and you will repent.
